Psych Analysis of the Movie Blow - 2057 Words
The movie Blow is the story of George Jung, the man who established the American cocaine market in the 1970s. The film starts with George as a child, showing what his childhood was like and what his relationship with his parents was like. As it progresses George grows up and moves to California. While there he become caught up in the marijuana scene and eventually starts selling it for money. George expands his market and eventually becomes very wealthy. But, George becomes too complacent and gets caught by the police and sentenced to prison. While there he meets and makes friends with Diego Delgado and learns about the drug Cocaine. Together they find a way to traffic it into the United States and again George becomes extremely wealthy.â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Drug tolerance is when increasing amounts of the drug are needed to gain the original, desired effect. This means that as a user continues to take a drug the desired effects lessen with the same dosage used over and over again because they are slowly building up a tolerance to the drug and its effects. But, if the user increases the dosage over time, they will be able to achieve that desired effect that they are looking for and in turn become more and more tolerant to the drug. George exemplifies this trait very well when he is in the delivery room and his wife is having their child. Before rushing his wife to the hospital George is shown taking/accidently inhaling cocaine as he packs for the trip. Once at the hospital and in the delivery room George is seen standing in a corner watching his wife give birth. George is standing fairly rigid while his hand is shaking uncontrollably and he has a grin of sorts on his face. This is him reacting to the drug and at the moment a drug induced heart attack as well. When George recovers the doctor tells him what had happened. George recollects by saying, ââ¬Å"The official toxicity limit for humans is between one and one and half grams of cocaine depending o n body weight. I was averaging five grams a day, maybe more. Reaching The God Given Dream - 1266 Words
We all have to start somewhere, and it often involves risking what others donââ¬â¢t think is reasonable. Reaching the God-given dream involves trying something thatââ¬â¢s beyond our ability to complete. Through the actions of preparing for something amazing, something amazing begins to happen in us. But, you will never see it until you give it a try. During the first thirty years our church existed, we met in eighteen different locations. We rented or leased what we could find or afford. We rented schoolrooms, community centers, and storefronts. Then in 1997 we bought an old movie theater that was our home for seventeen years. It may sound as though we just made a decision and did it. It was more complicated than that. It always is. Itâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦When we bought the building, it was named ââ¬Å"The Four-Star Theater.â⬠It was an original United Artists theater. The four stars were for the founders of United Artists: Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks, M ary Pickford, and D.W. Griffith. Major movie premiers were shown there. We found black and white photos from the city archives that showed grand openings with spotlights shooting up into the night leading Hollywoodââ¬â¢s elite to the big event of the evening. Premiere events at the Four Star included The Lost Horizon in 1937, Grapes of Wrath in 1940, Julius Caesar in 1953, and The Magic Christian in 1970. Gone With The Wind was screened for the press there, three days before itââ¬â¢s grand opening. The theater had history. It began as a major theater in the city and over the years had become a place to see obscure movies, Indy films or foreign films. At one point it was a place to see porno movies, and finally it was a place to see movies for $1 that actually were available at Blockbuster to watch in your own home. Then, we bought it, and it became a church; a place for the transformation of livesââ¬âit was known as a place to take your friends who needed to find Jesus . Now imagine how much money Peterson not only brought his university but also the NCAA itself. When Theodore Roosevelt helped create the NCAA in 1906 he had no idea how much the NCAA would grow and what it would grow into. At that time it was a way to watch athletes play sports while making sure the rules were being followed, and watch the top athletes display their talents to the nation before becoming professionals. Those numbers is not even minimum wage if they got paid hourly for their sweat blood and tears the put in. Most athletic programs obviously cant afford this but a billion dollar company like the NCAA definitely can. V.
